U14s Pre Season Training every Tuesday & Thursday starting 8th and 10th July 2008
Our U14s took the trip down to Gillingham last Friday evening to play a friendly against Hollands & Blair FC.We lost our keeper through injury on Friday morning and had the bare 11 players for the game. We started brightly and camped in the opposition half for the first 20 minutes but we missed a few opportunities to take the lead before we eventually did.Once we got in front we regained a little composure and we added another 3 goals before halftime came. Brad had volunteered to go in goal first half and he made one fantastic save, diving well to his right to force the ball onto the post and away. Second half and Ian went in goal and he also managed to keep a clean sheet. We scored another 3 goals and it was nice to see the goals spread out with 5 different scorers. All in all it was a very pleasing performance with some excellent individual performances and the team seemed to gel very well with a few new faces in it.Goalscorers were Sullay (2), Abs (2), Cavelle, Ryan and Harvey. A big thank you to Ken and his Hollands & Blair team who made us very welcome and showed a great attitude before, during and after the game.Good luck for next season !
WELL DONE TO ALL THE PLAYERS AND PARENTS WHO ATTENDED

18th April 2008 TONBRIDGE ANGELS 1 FISHER ATHLETIC 7 Today saw us away to Tonbridge Angels for our final league game of the season. We entertained them recently in the home fixture and drew 4-4 after losing our concentration and failing to play football in the second half like we did in the first. I needn`t have worried today though as each and every boy stepped up to the plate and showed the watching crowd what a great team we are when we play as a unit. Due to the fact that we were without our usual right back (he is on a week long ban after a recent red card) i opted for an attacking formation of 3-4-3.This worked particularly well and after the first 10 minutes we scored our first goal courtesy of Oliver. We scored another 3 goals before the break with Oliver getting another one and Ryan and Harvey getting the other 2.All the goals were well worked and involved some great build up play (aside from Ryans great corner from Jeromes corner). Second half and we kept it going scoring another 3 goals (courtesy of Ryan,Louie and Keiran). The only negative was conceding a goal but i think at 6-0 the complacency had crept in and our shape went a bit. All in all though it was a great performance to end the season and i would now like to thank all the boys and their parents for their hard work, effort and commitment throughout the season. Who knows what next season will bring but i can assure everyone that i have a lot of boys here who are proud to wear the Fisher shirt and this team only needs strengthening in a couple of areas to have a team that i honestly believe can challenge for titles and trophies next year and i will be doing my utmost to bring in the necessary quality over the next couple of months. Well done boys Grant
23rd March 2008 PHOENIX 2 FISHER ATHLETIC 3 Today saw us playing our away fixture against Brian and his Phoenix team.We had beaten them 2-0 at home in our first game of the season and they now had 2 former Fisher players in their team so we knew they would be up for it. I had a very good talk with the boys in the dressing room before the game and tried to rouse them.I needn`t have worried as each and every boy delivered for me today and i was truly proud of each and every one of them. Some of the football we played today was truly awesome especially on the lefthand side and how we played such slick, passing football on a muddy pitch, i still don`t know. We worked tirelessly in midfield and won the battle there and caused plenty of problems out wide and upfront with the defense holding firm.Oliver scored first with a composed finish but a few minutes later we were slow to react to a throw which went in favour of Phoenix (when the boys positioned themselves for a Fisher throw) and we didnt recover quick enough and after a bit of defensive hesitancy Phoenix broke through and scored. This was totally against the run of play but this game is all about taking your chances when they come along. After sustained pressure we were awarded a penalty which Louie struck well but the keeper made a great save. Half time came and with just the bare 11 there were no changes.I told the boys just to keep the pressure on as we were winning our battles all over the pitch but we needed to convert the percentage of play into goalscoring opportunities. The boys kept at it and i was over the moon with some of the movement and passing.Oliver got his second a little while later after some great build up play but we put ourselves under pressure again by failing to deal with a bread and butter defensive clearance and credit to their striker who scored after following up his first shot which Joe did really well to save. If we didnt manage to take all 3 points today it would be a travesty of justice but after more sustained pressure and after countless waves of attack, Ruben finally scored the winner with a well struck shot low to the keepers left and there was no further score. All in all i think the score doesnt tell the story as we bossed the game all over the park today and our football, at times, was sublime. The boys delivered for me today and i really sensed a real, proper team spirit amongst them today and in all honesty, it is a pleasure to manage these boys. Well done to Brian and his Phoenix team who took their chances well today and never gave up. The biggest thank you goes to all my players who made me proud today and kept to our gameplan. Grant Sunday 16th March 2008 FISHER ATHLETIC 1 WELLING UTD 1 The weather was bright and sunny and we were informed on getting to the ground that we were to play on the Main Beckenham Town 1st team pitch which looked fantastic and would be a great experience for both sets of boys. I was led to believe that we wouldnt have a ref today but 30 mins before KO the ref turned up.The game started and within 5 minutes the ref gave a free-kick just outside our area and i still havent met a player or parent (including their assistant manager/physio) that knew what it was for.The boys charged down the free kick but the ref wanted it taken again and fair play to the boy who took it because he struck it very well and it flew into the top corner giving Joe no chance of saving it. This was our wake up call as we then proceeded to play the rest of the first half with some teriffic passing and movement. The whole team looked up for it and we just needed to be more clinical in front of goal to make our superiority count. After being awarded a free kick just outside their box, Ruben was ever so unlucky to see his well struck shot cannon off the inside of the post and rebound across the front of the goal line where it was cleared. Soon after, Jerome scored an absolute belter of a goal from outside the area and the power in his shot was awesome giving their keeper absolutely no chance. Ian found himself receiving a yellow card a while later with a ferocious tackle.Half time came with the game still 1-1.A couple of changes were made but in all honesty it seemed to take us out of our stride and Welling got themselves back into the game with some neat football themselves at times.I think its fair to say that both teams do like to play the ball on the floor and it is refreshing to see , what with other teams relying on power and pace upfront and playing the ball over the top which i personally dont think will ever improve a team as a playing unit. Next week is when we seek to avenge the defeat to Blackheath Wabderers from earlier in the season and if we can play the same way next week as we did in the first half today then an upset could be possible. WELL DONE BOYS Grant
2nd March 2008 GLEBE 8 FISHER ATHLETIC 1 Today saw us on the receiving end of our heaviest defeat this season (and on record) after a Glebe side showed their full potential and we didnt step up to the plate. Up the Fish ! Grant
17th February 2008 FISHER ATHLETIC 13 TUNBRIDGE WELLS 1 Today saw us with an 11am kick off instead of the 2pm kick off we had planned for.Tunbridge had 10 players and we had 11 and Tony Boon kindly stepped in to ref the game after the official ref cancelled yesterday. At half time i only had praise for the team and told them that, above all, I wanted us to keep a clean sheet. Unfortunately Perrie recieved a knock on his ankle ten minutes before the end of the first half, which prevented him from playing anymore in the match apart from a five minute period.(Rest it up this week mate as we need you fit for next week - well done today). We did start to lose our shape and we lost concentration a couple of times but Joe saved well to keep our clean sheet going. We got to 12-0 when our defence pushed too far forward in search of glory and on the counter attack the Tun Wells striker scored with a tremendous shot from outside the area which gave Joe no chance. We managed another goal before the game finished with us winning 13-1. Also a big thanks all the parents (The Fish faithful !) and to Tony Boon who reffed the game as good as any of the official refs . - cheers mate. Grant
10th February 2008 FISHER ATHLETIC 4 TONBRIDGE ANGELS 4 This week saw us playing our home fixture at Ten Em Bee and i have to say that the pitch was in great shape and if we couldn`t play decent football on it then there was no way the pitch could be blamed ! We were down to the bare bones today with a depleted team ( Ryan out with groin injry, Tommy Smith - damaged foot, Raphael - Tonsilitis !)and 1 sick substitute along with 2 players starting even though they were carrying injuries. Well done to the 2 boys who came along to support their teamates even though they were injured and out of the game . This was definitely a game of 2 halves and unfortunately our fooball in the second half never got near the football we played in the first half when we really did play some teriffic football that had several parents purring with delight !At times the one touch football was of the highest order right throughout the team and we thoroughly deserved to go in at half time 3-1 to the good with Oliver (2) and Cavelle (penalty) getting our goals. The game finished 4-4 and we really should have wrapped it up first half but all credit to Tunbridge Wells as they never gave up and had a really good second half. Another lesson learned today boys - We cannot afford to lose our heads and get wound up by opposing players as this was probably the turning point today when i was forced to change it around to prevent a sending off when it was working with great effect. We have also learned that we have to show consistency for 70 minutes NOT 35 minutes. Very well done though for a great first half performance. Grant
20th January 2008 ERITH & BELVEDRE 3 FISHER ATHLETIC 1
Today was our eagerly anticipated match away to Erith especially after the entertaining game we had against them at home earlier in the season.Since that game Erith have continued their good form in the league and they are now the only unbeaten team left in the league and as a result they now top the league. We would have to be at our best to get a result especially as our influential midfielder Jerome was out injured due to an ankle injury. Just to summarise it wasnt our best performance and i felt that a few of our boys didnt give 100% but we did play some nice football in periods as did Erith but they ran out 3-1 winners with Oliver scoring our goal. Well done to Erith and it looks like they are favourites to win the league now. Hopefully this week against Tonbridge Angels all the boys will be up for it as one of our magical performances is overdue ! Well done boys
6th January 2008 TUNBRIDGE WELLS 2 FISHER ATHLETIC 5 "WATCH OUT - THE FISH ARE BACK .." Our first game of 2008 saw us away to Tunbridge Wells in the Kent Youth League. On paper it was a game i expected to win but i have learnt that you can take nothing for granted and complacency wasn`t an option.Unfortunately the pitch wasnt in very good condition and to try and play the ball on the floor was always going to be hard due to the wet mud and divots. We were pretty rusty in the opening 10 mins and went 1-0 down after failing to put a challenge in and leaving players unmarked. We then woke up and got straight back into the game with Tommy Smith getting on the score sheet with a well worked goal.Almost immediately we scored again courtesy of Harvey who then went on to get a first half hat-trick after showing great composure in front of goal.We did concede a poor goal just before halftime when our defence failed to get rid of the ball in our box even though we had 3 opportunities to do so but hopefully we will learn from this. Second half and we raised our game but the pitch had gotten worse and it was very hard to play the ball on the floor but we persevered and got our 5th goal, courtesy of Oliver, who met Jeromes great corner and forced it high into the net. All in all a pretty good performance but we do need to put more of our chances away (we should have scored at least another 4 !) and considering the muddy pitch the boys did their best so well done boys. We are away again next week to Phoenix so lets hopefully look forward to another good result if we work hard and show a bit more composure in front of goal. Well done boys Cheers Grant
16th DECEMBER 2007 FISHER 2 GLEBE 3 Today saw us host our league game against Glebe FC .This was the Club that quite a few of our players used to play for and one which i personally have many fond memories of.The team was now run by Lee and i think its fair to say that he is doing a great job with Glebe still being unbeaten in the League and in the Semi-Final of the League Cup.It was nice to see quite a few familiar faces and it promised to be an entertaining match. Well done to Glebe who have had a great first half of the season (along with Erith & Belvedere) but watch out for The Fish in the second half ! UP THE FISH GRANT
2nd DECEMBER 2007 FISHER 8 CRAYFORD ARROWS 1 Today saw us back at Old Wilsonians to entertain Crayford Arrows who we had previously beaten in the League away and in the Challenge Cup.The weather conditions were atrocious but the pitch held up with ease.We started with the same team as the previous week and considering the wind and rain it was pretty even first half.Crayford managed to get their noses in front first when we didnt deal with their attack but we settled down and soon got back on level terms courtesy of Oliver. At half time i made a couple of changes but the weather had eased up and it had stopped raining so we were now able to play some lovely football and the goals kept coming. I think im right in saying that our goalscorers were Oliver (1), Perrie (2), Jerome (2), Harvey (1), Cavelle (1) and Ruben (1) . Thats 2 great wins on the spin and it`s great to see all the boys playing with confidence and really enjoying their football.Well done to all the players. Grant
25th NOVEMBER 2007 FISHER 6 CORINTHIANS 0 Today saw us playing our first Home fixture at the Old Wilsonians Sports Ground and what a pleasure it was to play there. We were out for revenge today after having been on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat away to Corinthians earlier in the season after playing them off the park but never managing to put the ball in the net. Half time soon came and i told the boys that the game was there to be won and all they had to do was keep at it and not let Corinthians have any time on the ball. They didnt dissappoint as they continued with renewed vigour and went right back at Corinthians. I cant remember the exact order of goals or subs but our second half scorers were Ryan (penalty), Ruben, Charlie, Perry and .I thought that all the subs did really well when they came on as we never looked like taking our foot off the pedal. Excellent stuff today boys and credit to Corinthians who never gave up and to their management who were very dignified after the game and paid me the highest compliment about our team. His words were that we are the best footballing team in this division that they have played, by far ! Well done to all the boys and parents and thanks to the boys and parents of the other Fisher teams who came down to give us some much appreciated support . Up the Fish !

bar
the much anticipated game against Erith & Belvedere. Erith were leading the league table and having watched them draw against Glebe last week, i knew our boys would have to be up for it if we were to get any kind of result. Well done Grant
