LATEST RESULT:

Hollands & Blair 0 Fisher Athletic 7

Our U14s took the trip down to Gillingham last Friday evening to play a friendly against Hollands & Blair FC.We lost our keeper through injury on Friday morning and had the bare 11 players for the game.

We started brightly and camped in the opposition half for the first 20 minutes but we missed a few opportunities to take the lead before we eventually did.Once we got in front we regained a little composure and we added another 3 goals before halftime came. Brad had volunteered to go in goal first half and he made one fantastic save, diving well to his right to force the ball onto the post and away.

Second half and Ian went in goal and he also managed to keep a clean sheet. We scored another 3 goals and it was nice to see the goals spread out with 5 different scorers. All in all it was a very pleasing performance with some excellent individual performances and the team seemed to gel very well with a few new faces in it.Goalscorers were Sullay (2), Abs (2), Cavelle, Ryan and Harvey.

A big thank you to Ken and his Hollands & Blair team who made us very welcome and showed a great attitude before, during and after the game.Good luck for next season !

TONBRIDGE ANGELS 1 FISHER ATHLETIC 7

Today saw us away to Tonbridge Angels for our final league game of the season. We entertained them recently in the home fixture and drew 4-4 after losing our concentration and failing to play football in the second half like we did in the first.

I needn`t have worried today though as each and every boy stepped up to the plate and showed the watching crowd what a great team we are when we play as a unit.

Due to the fact that we were without our usual right back (he is on a week long ban after a recent red card) i opted for an attacking formation of 3-4-3.This worked particularly well and after the first 10 minutes we scored our first goal courtesy of Oliver. We scored another 3 goals before the break with Oliver getting another one and Ryan and Harvey getting the other 2.All the goals were well worked and involved some great build up play (aside from Ryans great corner from Jeromes corner).

Second half and we kept it going scoring another 3 goals (courtesy of Ryan,Louie and Keiran). The only negative was conceding a goal but i think at 6-0 the complacency had crept in and our shape went a bit.

All in all though it was a great performance to end the season and i would now like to thank all the boys and their parents for their hard work, effort and commitment throughout the season.

Who knows what next season will bring but i can assure everyone that i have a lot of boys here who are proud to wear the Fisher shirt and this team only needs strengthening in a couple of areas to have a team that i honestly believe can challenge for titles and trophies next year and i will be doing my utmost to bring in the necessary quality over the next couple of months.

Well done boys

PHOENIX 2 FISHER ATHLETIC 3

Today saw us playing our away fixture against Brian and his Phoenix team.We had beaten them 2-0 at home in our first game of the season and they now had 2 former Fisher players in their team so we knew they would be up for it.
The pitch was in a poor state with the referee informing me, on kick-off, that he may well postpone if it cut up any more or if the ball stuck too much.

I had a very good talk with the boys in the dressing room before the game and tried to rouse them.I needn`t have worried as each and every boy delivered for me today and i was truly proud of each and every one of them. Some of the football we played today was truly awesome especially on the lefthand side and how we played such slick, passing football on a muddy pitch, i still don`t know. We worked tirelessly in midfield and won the battle there and caused plenty of problems out wide and upfront with the defense holding firm.Oliver scored first with a composed finish but a few minutes later we were slow to react to a throw which went in favour of Phoenix (when the boys positioned themselves for a Fisher throw) and we didnt recover quick enough and after a bit of defensive hesitancy Phoenix broke through and scored. This was totally against the run of play but this game is all about taking your chances when they come along. After sustained pressure we were awarded a penalty which Louie struck well but the keeper made a great save.

Half time came and with just the bare 11 there were no changes.I told the boys just to keep the pressure on as we were winning our battles all over the pitch but we needed to convert the percentage of play into goalscoring opportunities. The boys kept at it and i was over the moon with some of the movement and passing.Oliver got his second a little while later after some great build up play but we put ourselves under pressure again by failing to deal with a bread and butter defensive clearance and credit to their striker who scored after following up his first shot which Joe did really well to save.

If we didnt manage to take all 3 points today it would be a travesty of justice but after more sustained pressure and after countless waves of attack, Ruben finally scored the winner with a well struck shot low to the keepers left and there was no further score.

All in all i think the score doesnt tell the story as we bossed the game all over the park today and our football, at times, was sublime. The boys delivered for me today and i really sensed a real, proper team spirit amongst them today and in all honesty, it is a pleasure to manage these boys.

Well done to Brian and his Phoenix team who took their chances well today and never gave up.

The biggest thank you goes to all my players who made me proud today and kept to our gameplan.

WELL DONE BOYS

FISHER ATHLETIC 1 WELLING UTD 1

The weather was bright and sunny and we were informed on getting to the ground that we were to play on the Main Beckenham Town 1st team pitch which looked fantastic and would be a great experience for both sets of boys.
After our defeat last week against Glebe i was very keen to see what the boys attitudes would be like before and during the game.

I was led to believe that we wouldnt have a ref today but 30 mins before KO the ref turned up.The game started and within 5 minutes the ref gave a free-kick just outside our area and i still havent met a player or parent (including their assistant manager/physio) that knew what it was for.The boys charged down the free kick but the ref wanted it taken again and fair play to the boy who took it because he struck it very well and it flew into the top corner giving Joe no chance of saving it.

This was our wake up call as we then proceeded to play the rest of the first half with some teriffic passing and movement. The whole team looked up for it and we just needed to be more clinical in front of goal to make our superiority count. After being awarded a free kick just outside their box, Ruben was ever so unlucky to see his well struck shot cannon off the inside of the post and rebound across the front of the goal line where it was cleared. Soon after, Jerome scored an absolute belter of a goal from outside the area and the power in his shot was awesome giving their keeper absolutely no chance.

Ian found himself receiving a yellow card a while later with a ferocious tackle.Half time came with the game still 1-1.A couple of changes were made but in all honesty it seemed to take us out of our stride and Welling got themselves back into the game with some neat football themselves at times.I think its fair to say that both teams do like to play the ball on the floor and it is refreshing to see , what with other teams relying on power and pace upfront and playing the ball over the top which i personally dont think will ever improve a team as a playing unit.
After several more changes and a fair bit of tinkering, the second goal still eluded us but in the meantime Ian put another rash challenge in and got himself sent off which meant us reverting to 3 at the back.We played the last 15 mins with 10 men and there was no further score but i have to say that i was very proud of the way the boys bounced back this week especially with a sublime first half performance and full credit to Welling United for giving us a good game.

Next week is when we seek to avenge the defeat to Blackheath Wabderers from earlier in the season and if we can play the same way next week as we did in the first half today then an upset could be possible.

WELL DONE BOYS

GLEBE 8 FISHER ATHLETIC 1

Today saw us on the receiving end of our heaviest defeat this season (and on record) after a Glebe side showed their full potential and we didnt step up to the plate.
We were missing Perrie as our striker today but, no excuses, we really can play a lot better than that.I felt that we were slow to get started and you can`t afford to play against Glebe with anything other than a group of boys who are determined to give their all and not drop their heads when the going gets tough.
The goals came rapidly and the power and pace of their forwards caused us problems.Half time came and it was 4-0.
I took the boys in the dressing room and had a good talk with them - I believed we could make a game of it but every boy needed to show the right attitude in the second half.Unfortunately we didnt get playing anywhere near to the level we can play at and needed to play at and as a result the goals were going in again. Our one goal came courtesy of Cavelle who showed good pace and composure to cut in from out wide on the right and tuck his shot neatly into the bottom corner. Well done to Lee and his Glebe team who played very well indeed but i know that next season we will be determined to avenge this defeat.
We must put this defeat to the back of our minds now and concentrate on beating Welling this Sunday.
A harsh lesson today but one which the boys , and i, can learn a lot from !

Heads up boys - I know it was a one off and that we are a lot,lot better than that.

Up the Fish !

FISHER ATHLETIC 13 TUNBRIDGE WELLS 1

Today saw us with an 11am kick off instead of the 2pm kick off we had planned for.Tunbridge had 10 players and we had 11 and Tony Boon kindly stepped in to ref the game after the official ref cancelled yesterday.
The pitch was in good condition and i knew it would suit us especially after playing the corresponding away game on a really muddy pitch in the pouring rain earlier in the season when we won 5-2.
We started well and looked up for it - and Perrie got the ball rolling with a good finish for our first goal. You will have to bear with me on the scorers and the order in which we scored because they kept on coming with us finishing the first half 9-0 up - at least i think it was 9.

At half time i only had praise for the team and told them that, above all, I wanted us to keep a clean sheet. Unfortunately Perrie recieved a knock on his ankle ten minutes before the end of the first half, which prevented him from playing anymore in the match apart from a five minute period.(Rest it up this week mate as we need you fit for next week - well done today). We did start to lose our shape and we lost concentration a couple of times but Joe saved well to keep our clean sheet going. We got to 12-0 when our defence pushed too far forward in search of glory and on the counter attack the Tun Wells striker scored with a tremendous shot from outside the area which gave Joe no chance. We managed another goal before the game finished with us winning 13-1.
On paper it was a great result but we have to bear in mind that we had an extra man for 20 mins in the first half.Looking back we scored some great goals today with 3 boys getting their Hat-Tricks (Jerome,Tommy and Perrie) and i know Ryan scored 2 and Conor got 1 but cant remember 1 scorer.I also think that Jerome was really unlucky not to add to his hat-trick after striking a ferocious shot from well outside the area and seeing the shot nearly smash the crossbar in half !
A good team effort today boys and full credit to Tunbridge Wells who never gave up.The only negatives today are that we didnt keep a clean sheet and we should have scored at least another 5 but bearing in mind that we scored 13 i dont think i can be too critical !!
Well done boys as it sets us up nicely for the big game against Glebe down at Ten Em Bee next Sunday.A special thank you to Cavelle today who showed his support and a maturity beyond his years - (He knows why !)
I want everyone at training nice and early this week please.

Also a big thanks all the parents (The Fish faithful !) and to Tony Boon who reffed the game as good as any of the official refs . - cheers mate.

FISHER ATHLETIC 4 TONBRIDGE ANGELS 4

This week saw us playing our home fixture at Ten Em Bee and i have to say that the pitch was in great shape and if we couldn`t play decent football on it then there was no way the pitch could be blamed !

We were down to the bare bones today with a depleted team ( Ryan out with groin injry, Tommy Smith - damaged foot, Raphael - Tonsilitis !)and 1 sick substitute along with 2 players starting even though they were carrying injuries. Well done to the 2 boys who came along to support their teamates even though they were injured and out of the game .

This was definitely a game of 2 halves and unfortunately our fooball in the second half never got near the football we played in the first half when we really did play some teriffic football that had several parents purring with delight !At times the one touch football was of the highest order right throughout the team and we thoroughly deserved to go in at half time 3-1 to the good with Oliver (2) and Cavelle (penalty) getting our goals.
Second half and after having to reshuffle due to boys losing their concentration and rising to the bait we were immediately put on the back foot by a now determined Tunbridge Wells team. We lost our shape and our heads with boys arguing with the ref (yes i know the decisions kept going against us and dont get me started on the penalty they were awarded !) but i will not accept any boys backchatting the referee including my own who now has an £8 fine to be paid from his pocket money With a couple of minutes to go we found ourselves losing 4-3 but we found enough in the tank to go 3 upfront and get at `em and Perrie followed up a saved shot from Brad to slam it in the net to make it 4-4.

The game finished 4-4 and we really should have wrapped it up first half but all credit to Tunbridge Wells as they never gave up and had a really good second half.

Another lesson learned today boys - We cannot afford to lose our heads and get wound up by opposing players as this was probably the turning point today when i was forced to change it around to prevent a sending off when it was working with great effect. We have also learned that we have to show consistency for 70 minutes NOT 35 minutes.

Very well done though for a great first half performance.

ERITH & BELVEDRE 3 FISHER ATHLETIC 1

Today was our eagerly anticipated match away to Erith especially after the entertaining game we had against them at home earlier in the season.Since that game Erith have continued their good form in the league and they are now the only unbeaten team left in the league and as a result they now top the league.

We would have to be at our best to get a result especially as our influential midfielder Jerome was out injured due to an ankle injury.

Just to summarise it wasnt our best performance and i felt that a few of our boys didnt give 100% but we did play some nice football in periods as did Erith but they ran out 3-1 winners with Oliver scoring our goal.

Well done to Erith and it looks like they are favourites to win the league now.

Hopefully this week against Tonbridge Angels all the boys will be up for it as one of our magical performances is overdue !

Well done boys

TUNBRIDGE WELLS 2 FISHER ATHLETIC 5

"WATCH OUT - THE FISH ARE BACK .."

Our first game of 2008 saw us away to Tunbridge Wells in the Kent Youth League. On paper it was a game i expected to win but i have learnt that you can take nothing for granted and complacency wasn`t an option.Unfortunately the pitch wasnt in very good condition and to try and play the ball on the floor was always going to be hard due to the wet mud and divots. We were pretty rusty in the opening 10 mins and went 1-0 down after failing to put a challenge in and leaving players unmarked. We then woke up and got straight back into the game with Tommy Smith getting on the score sheet with a well worked goal.Almost immediately we scored again courtesy of Harvey who then went on to get a first half hat-trick after showing great composure in front of goal.We did concede a poor goal just before halftime when our defence failed to get rid of the ball in our box even though we had 3 opportunities to do so but hopefully we will learn from this.

Second half and we raised our game but the pitch had gotten worse and it was very hard to play the ball on the floor but we persevered and got our 5th goal, courtesy of Oliver, who met Jeromes great corner and forced it high into the net.

All in all a pretty good performance but we do need to put more of our chances away (we should have scored at least another 4 !) and considering the muddy pitch the boys did their best so well done boys.

We are away again next week to Phoenix so lets hopefully look forward to another good result if we work hard and show a bit more composure in front of goal.

Well done boys

Cheers

FISHER 2 GLEBE 3

Today saw us host our league game against Glebe FC .This was the Club that quite a few of our players used to play for and one which i personally have many fond memories of.The team was now run by Lee and i think its fair to say that he is doing a great job with Glebe still being unbeaten in the League and in the Semi-Final of the League Cup.It was nice to see quite a few familiar faces and it promised to be an entertaining match.
The first half and i think its fair to say that it wasnt the best half weve had with a few boys not performing to their potential. We went 1-0 down when the Glebe attack showed terrific pace and slammed the ball into the net and shortly afterwards we gave away a penalty after a reckless tackle on their striker.Thankfully the penalty was blazed over the bar (another brand new matchball lost !) and a few minutes later we got back in the game when Tom P fired a free-kick high into the goal and the keeper really should have held it but he only managed to push the ball over his head and over the goal line. We started to get back in it when we conceded again after not dealing with a ball played in behind our defence.
Once we got back in the dressing room i did a bit of straight talking with the boys and pointed out where i believed we were going wrong.A couple of changes were made with Brad replacing Tom P and Stef replacing Ian.I told the boys that we needed to pressure the ball every time a Glebe player was on it and not give them the room to ping their long balls over the top of our defence where there speed was troubling us in the first half.I thought we did this well second half and i felt that we played the better football of the teams and were rewarded with a great goal from Jerome.I thought aidraw would have been a fair result but unfortunately for us their midfielder/striker managed to evade his marker and find room to fire in a great goal from the edge of the area.
The game nearly saw us get an equaliser shortly afterwards but somehow Oliver fired wide after some good build up play.
Like i said before, i think a draw would have been a fair result but Glebe took their goals well and so they took the 3 points.
I was especially pleased with our second half performance and the way we tried to play some decent football and i do honestly think that we are getting better as a team unit.

Well done to Glebe who have had a great first half of the season (along with Erith & Belvedere) but watch out for The Fish in the second half !

WELL DONE BOYS
HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

FISHER 8 CRAYFORD ARROWS 1

Today saw us back at Old Wilsonians to entertain Crayford Arrows who we had previously beaten in the League away and in the Challenge Cup.The weather conditions were atrocious but the pitch held up with ease.We started with the same team as the previous week and considering the wind and rain it was pretty even first half.Crayford managed to get their noses in front first when we didnt deal with their attack but we settled down and soon got back on level terms courtesy of Oliver. At half time i made a couple of changes but the weather had eased up and it had stopped raining so we were now able to play some lovely football and the goals kept coming. I think im right in saying that our goalscorers were Oliver (1), Perrie (2), Jerome (2), Harvey (1), Cavelle (1) and Ruben (1) .

Thats 2 great wins on the spin and it`s great to see all the boys playing with confidence and really enjoying their football.Well done to all the players.
Keep it going as we are now up to 3rd in the league

FISHER 6 CORINTHIANS 0

Today saw us playing our first Home fixture at the Old Wilsonians Sports Ground and what a pleasure it was to play there.
A great pitch coupled with a welcoming warm bar !

We were out for revenge today after having been on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat away to Corinthians earlier in the season after playing them off the park but never managing to put the ball in the net.
With Kieran missing through a prior family engagement we had Ryan and Stef as the two centre halves with Conor H and Ian either side.In central midfield we had Jerome and Brad with Ruben and Tommy S on the wings.Upfront Oliver and new signing, Perry Rose, were our strikeforce.
Right from the off we took the game to Corinthians and i felt that the pitch really suited our players. We kept at it and looked solid throughout. Our first goal came courtesy of Oliver who showed great maturity in rounding the keeper before calmly putting the ball into the net between two defenders.

Half time soon came and i told the boys that the game was there to be won and all they had to do was keep at it and not let Corinthians have any time on the ball. They didnt dissappoint as they continued with renewed vigour and went right back at Corinthians. I cant remember the exact order of goals or subs but our second half scorers were Ryan (penalty), Ruben, Charlie, Perry and .I thought that all the subs did really well when they came on as we never looked like taking our foot off the pedal.

Excellent stuff today boys and credit to Corinthians who never gave up and to their management who were very dignified after the game and paid me the highest compliment about our team. His words were that we are the best footballing team in this division that they have played, by far !

Well done to all the boys and parents and thanks to the boys and parents of the other Fisher teams who came down to give us some much appreciated support .

Up the Fish !

bar the much anticipated game against Erith & Belvedere. Erith were leading the league table and having watched them draw against Glebe last week, i knew our boys would have to be up for it if we were to get any kind of result.
The day didnt start well when one of the goals broke en route to the pitch and the crossbar sheared from the post. With a few willing hands and some zip ties we managed to secure it to the satisfaction of the Ref and with 5 mins to kick off we were ready.Larry had taken the warm up and i had a good chat with the boys in the dressing room and our gameplan was delivered.
What with it being Rememrance Sunday, both myself and Lee Beale wished our teams to observe the 2 minutes silence with the Ref officiating this important moment and all boys and parents showing their respects for those brave men and women who did and continue to do their bit for our Country.

The game started and we were knocking the ball about with much confidence. As the minutes ticked away we seemed to really fancy causing an upset and we were not only passing well but we were pressuring the ball when Erith were in possession and generally we were taking the game to Erith. Finally we got the breakthrough which we deserved when Oliver Newport, after a great ball from Tommy Smith, fired home a great shot with his right foot to the keepers left.
Five minutes later we had a great chance to go 2-0 up but Charlie P hit his effort over the bar when i`d have put money on him scoring. We kept at it and halftime soon came.
Second half and we continued where we left off.We were looking solid at the back, the midfield was working hard and i felt if we could get some decent balls in behind the defence then i thought we would score again. With about 15 mins to go we started to tire and Erith started to get into the game. They were now dictating play but every effort they had was snuffed out by a Fisher shirt. That was until they got their equaliser with a good shot that curled in and rebounded off the post over the goaline.
We then had another chance when Tommy S was through to the left of the keeper but the shot went wide. With a few minutes left to go Erith got the winner after one defensive error let them in.
Absolutely choked ! This was how i felt. The boys had really had a go but we were once again punished by a side that were clinical when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.
I was proud of all the boys today and im genuinely sorry that i never managed to get all the subs on today but to their credit, they encouraged the team and showed a very mature attitude. It`s a long season and everyone will get plenty of football.
Once again i must stress that i was (with the exception of the last 10 mins) very pleased with the boys in that they really did play some nice football today but also they defended from the front and i know that if we play like that every week then come the end of the season, we will be up there with the best of `em.
Well done to Lee and his Erith team who beat us today - they didnt give up and as a result they walked away with all 3 points.
Dartford are next up in the Quarter Finals of the Cup.
Play with the same spirit and heart boys and this time next week we could be in the Semis !

Well done

Grant

Match Report:- w/e 4th NOVEMBER 2007

WELLING UNITED 2 FISHER ATHLETIC 2

Today saw the boys with an afternoon kick off against Welling United.

Welling United are a team we know quite well and every time we`ve played each other both teams have played the game with the ball on the floor. The teams were both level on points in the League Table so it was all to play for.

First half we had some decent possession but schoolboy errors cost us 2 goals and it was now a case of whether the boys dug in and got back into the game or folded.Substitutions were made and shortcomings pointed out.To the boys` credit we kept at it and with a bit of luck Tommy Smith scored with a reactive instinctive shot that had enough pace to beat the keeper.

Half time came and more substitutions saw us take the game to Welling second half.Jerome was making his debut today and i think he will prove a valuable asset to the team.We kept at Welling and won several corners and free kicks that Ruben was delivering with much quality. It was from one of Rubens textbook corners that Tom Parker scored with a great bullet header high into the corner of the net.
We went in search of a winner but even though we created more chances, we couldnt get the decisive final touch.

All in all i think a draw was fair but had we not gifted the 2 early first half goals then i know we would have gone on to take all 3 points.

Credit must be given to the boys for getting back in the game after being 2-0 down and i would like to thank Brian and his Welling United team who made us welcome and gave us a good game.

Erith & Belvedere are next up at our place and time to step up a gear !

Cheers

Grant

SUNDAY 28th OCTOBER 2007

Sunday 28th October saw us play the same fixture as last week but in the League and Away to Crayford Arrows.

After the emphatic victory last week i wanted to stress to the boys that this game was by no means a foregone conclusion. We knew Crayford would be out to get even and if we were going to get a result then we would have to work for it.
The pitch was quite a bit smaller than ours and the weather was wet and windy.Could an upset be on the cards ?

First half and we never seemed to get out of first gear.We didnt look like conceding (especially after a great save from Joe) but at the other end we didnt create as much as we should of and when we did get an opportunity , we never made it count.
We got a lucky break courtesy of a deflected own goal but i think we deserved to have our noses in front at halftime.

With 5 subs on the bench i`d told all the players that if they are not performing then i will let someone else have a go and then, if they grasp the opportunity and add to our game then they may start the following week.

Second half and we changed things around a bit and started to take the game to Crayford. We were creating more chances and the difference seemed to be that we were getting the ball out to the right and left as opposed to the majority of balls out to just the left in the first half.Unfortunately we were not taking our chances and we really do need to start tucking a few more goals away when we are creating chances.
We also gave away some silly fouls just outside our area and we were punished for this after their striker scored a textbook shot high into the roof of the net with a well hit shot.

To the boys credit they kept going and Raph put us back in front with a cross come shot that dipped over their keeper from out wide on the left and finished in the back of their net.

Nothing of note really happened after that but we kept it tight at the back and finished with no further score.

Well done boys - Not the greatest game we`ve played but enough to win the 3 points. I felt a few boys didn`t do themselves justice today and with a new face coming in next week then everyone needs to be on top of their game.

2 wins on the bounce so lets leep it going !

FISHER ATHLETIC 10 CRAYFORD ARROWS 2 (SUNDAY 21st OCT 2007)

I cant write too much of a report on this game because i am currently on a weeks holiday in Cornwall but i will try and offer as much as i can.

After the disappointment of last week it really would be a test of character for the boys to get back onto the same pitch and deliver a performance that we all know the boys are capable of when in the right mood.

Paul was running the show today and, if you dont already know, Paul will be stepping down from his involvement as Assistant Manager as of now.I would like to thank Paul for all his hard work, enthusiasm and commitment to the Team during the last 2 seasons.Paul and myself had spoken earlier in the week and it was decided that after todays game i would manage the team on my own.
Paul will obviously still be involved as a parent and he couldn`t have asked for a better performance from the boys today. They did him proud.

Once again, on behalf of myself and all the boys and parents, THANK YOU for everything.

Back to the game then and i do know that we were 5-0 up at half time.

The game ended 10-2 with goals from: Conor Hanifan 3, Oliver Newport 3, Ryan Inniss 2, Cavelle and Luke Clarke.

I was especially pleased to see Conor & Oliver getting Hat-Tricks - FANTASTIC STUFF BOYS

Its nice to be reminded that we do know where the back of the net is ! I was getting worried !

And so, next week we play Crayford again in our League game so hopefully we can continue where we left off today.

WELL DONE BOYS - Keep it going
